As part of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Deepwater Program, the FRC – Sentinel-Class is recognized as one of the most successful shipbuilding initiatives in history. Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, Charles “Skip” W. Bowen led the initiative to name each vessel after an enlisted Coast Guard hero. The latest launch, CGC Frederick Hatch represents a two-time recipient of the Gold Lifesaving Metal, slated to serve in Santa Rita, Guam.

The Fast Response Cutters (FRCs) are replacing aging cutters with an average cost of $58 million. Over 60 FRCs have been funded, serving from Puerto Rico to the Persian Gulf. The program has been so successful that the Coast Guard’s Patrol Forces Southwest Asia (PATFORSWA), the largest unit outside the United States, is expected to be the next region for expansion. The U.S. Navy is also studying the FRC as a replacement for the Cyclone-class and future development of unmanned patrol ships. The “parent-craft” design, based on the Damen Stan 4708 will serve our nation and many of our allies around the globe for decades to come.
