The First-Ever Quantum Spin-A-Thon

The Task Force Dagger Foundation, proved to be a grateful beneficiary of the proceeds generated from the 1st Quantum Spin-A-Thon that took place on the 17th of August 2024. From a great cause to the incredible “team spirit” that developed throughout the 8-hour spin, read on to learn more about this exceptional event.

About the Event

The event took place on the production floor of Quantum’s Headquarter Facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With an expansive floor and a 2nd story level, open to below, all eyes were on the spinners and the 4.1m (160”) LED screen projecting Peloton, ½ hour sessions throughout the day.

The event was held in support of Task Force Dagger (TFD), benefitting retired US Special Operations Command Members. 13 Sponsor Teams, volunteers in support of Task Force Dagger and members from the Quantum Team joined the pool of spinners to generate an astonishing 42,146 kilojoules (kJ’s) – equivalent to a 100-watt lightbulb for about 117 hours, which is nearly 5 days of continuous use.

Companies from across the marine industries had the exclusive opportunity to sponsor a bike at Quantum’s Spin-A-Thon. While some teams were more competitive than others, everyone enjoyed seeing the support and camaraderie between spinners across all teams. It was a consistent scene of cheering on teammates and fanning air on them to keep them cool. In the end, the common goal was to generate the highest kJ’s in order to raise the most funds possible for Task Force Dagger.

“It’s a lovely outcome, because we all feel like we contributed,” said Quantum CEO John Allen on the event. “We all put in that extra effort when we rode to raise money for the veterans who sacrificed so much for our freedom.” The 11-hour event was accompanied by a full breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks throughout the day.

About Task Force Dagger

Task Force Dagger Special Operations Foundation (SOF) provides assistance to wounded, ill, or injured US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) members and their families. They respond to urgent needs, conduct Rehabilitative Adaptive Events (RAE), and provide next-generation health solutions for issues facing service members.

What truly makes TFD special is their focus on the entire family, not just the Veteran. From 24/7 support to couple’s diving exercises to help re-learn communication within the family. This shows support for not only the Veteran and their service but also their immediate support system which is the key to Task Force Dagger’s approach to rehabilitation.

“It is the honor of my life and every Special Operator that I know, to serve our country. Nobody wants to come back feeling broken and staying broken. That is the purpose of Task Force Dagger and why we are here,” said Matt Perrish, Executive Director at TFD, in his closing speech. Matt is a retired Green Beret who spent his entire 20-year career within Special Operations. He was joined at the event by his colleague, Jillian Andrews, who also comes from a family of active and retired military personnel.
