It all began in 1985 as Quantum Marine Engineering, in Newport Rhode Island with John Allen as the founding member. He brought together a small team of bright and ambitious engineers that were driven to challenge the status quo of marine stabilization technology, constantly exploring new solutions. When tasked with servicing a vessel, the comments from the Captain or Chief Engineer was consistent, “The stabilizers are working– DON’T TOUCH THEM!” Wondering, what could possibly be so complicated about stabilizers? They concluded, this could be our new area of expertise.” The goal then became: to build the best stabilizers on the market.
The Company relocated to Florida in 1989 with a pioneering spirit and determination to service the marine industry with the most advanced stabilizing technology in the world. They continued to study stabilizer systems, realizing they had to expand their reach to those who had talents in other areas, such as controls. Once that talent was secured, the decision was made to design and engineer a Quantum, proprietary system that would elevate the performance and onboard comfort and exceed the owner’s expectations.
That goal became an obsession that led to the first big innovation. In 2000, they introduced the first Zero Speed™ technology that changed the marine industry forever. Most owners during that period, preferred to dine at the dock, just to avoid being seasick. The Zero Speed™ technology delivered immediate relief to those who had previously suffered from seasickness. Once the word got out, every owner needed and wanted Zero Speed™ stabilization, both to minimize seasickness and ensure onboard safety.
In 2017 a new state-of-the-art, headquarter facility was completed in Fort Lauderdale to include service, parts, engineering, manufacturing, sales/marketing and accounting. With Allen still at the helm, the company specializes in stabilization systems for the yachting, military and commercial industries.
In 1992, the service department was formed to accommodate the growing volume of yachts using Quantum Systems and their need for service and parts throughout the world. All of the service technicians are in-house Quantum employees who have undergone extensive training, have a deep understanding of the systems and find solutions that work.
In 2001, Quantum Controls (QC) opened in Nuth, The Netherlands, representing the European Division of the Quantum Group. Three founding members, Lambert Dinnissen, Theo Koop and Hans Ooms, all experienced in roll damping equipment, came together with a vision of building the most advanced stabilizer systems in the world for superyachts, military and commercial vessels up to 200m in length.
This division designs and manufactures active fin stabilizers, rotors and system controls with a keen focus on future innovations and advanced technologies. With the ability to build both hardware and software in-house, including 3D engineering, modeling and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CDF). Quantum has the ability to customize the entire process to the exact needs of the client. These unique capabilities put Quantum as the market leader in roll stabilization systems.
Since 1985, Quantum has pioneered the world’s most advanced marine stabilization technologies, serving private yachts and boats, military platforms and commercial vessels around the world.
With three international patents secured, and two additional patents pending, Quantum has achieved a reputation for pioneering innovations and technologies. As the inventors of Quantum Zero Speed™, XT™ (extendable) Fins, Dyna-Foil™ and MAGLift™ Rotors, Quantum has revolutionized the marine yachting industry, adding unprecedented comfort at anchor and underway. Innovation and determination have contributed to Quantum’s success. We will continue its inventive research and development initiatives, always focused on the end user, while ensuring comfort and safety at any speed.
For several years, the yachting industry has been challenged and criticized for negatively contributing to the Earth’s ecosystem. Long before sustainability became “popular,” Quantum has been recommending environmentally safe oils and refurbishing various components to lessen the environmental impact of the stabilizer system. The latest disruptors are the F45 Hybrid Power System and the electric fin stabilizer e-FIN, both featuring energy recovery capabilities and reduced power consumption.
